Invention and non-compete agreements

One important finding is that inventors in states that enforce non-compete agreements are more likely to leave the state when they change jobs. Another is that these inventors are more likely to move to states where non-competes are unenforceable.  The state-wide results are validated by examining the increased emigration of Michigan inventors following an inadvertent change in state law from a non-enforcement to an enforcement regime.  The increase in emigration from Michigan was strongest for more productive and collaborative inventors.
